In the small unspoilt valley of Valnontey
you will find a rugged Alpine spirit. In fact
the village lies at the very foot of the Parco
Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, Italy’s
foremost and oldest national Park. Created
from the hunting estates of the royal house
of Savoy, it is the habitat of the only surviving
species of wild ibex, that is now almost extinct
in the rest of Europe. Valnontey offers intact
scenery with glimpses of rare flowers of the
botanical Garden Paradisia and the rare wildlife,
as chamois, golden eagles and marmots.
Excursions:
the National Park of the Gran Paradiso offers
an innumerable variety of walks and hikes,
you can simply follow the bottom of the valley
or one of the old royal mule tracks, reach
the pastures and the mountain lakes, or go
to the discovery of the « High Ways»
for a true trekking.

Mountain bike:
in summer, the cross-country skiing tracks
transform into never-ending cycle routes.
Besides you will be able to take advantage
of the hiring directly from the Hôtel
La Barme.
Horse riding:
Mr Pianta can accompany you and your family
for a ride along the river where you maybe
lucky enough to glimpse chamois and squirrels.
For the young ones there are also shorter
pony treks.
Free climbing:
five well equipped rock-climbing walls for
any levels and difficulties.
Mountaineering:
the Gran Paradiso massif boasts summits of
more than 4000m and the majestic Grivola allows
you to follow in the tracks of the pioneers
of alpinism.
Fishing:
the Urtier and Grand Eyvia rivers offer exciting
fresh water fishing or the quieter location
of lake Lillaz with its wild backdrop.
For the children:
in Cogne, there is a crèche for the
children which is brightly coloured and well
equipped with games and toys. And for the
older children there are outdoor playgrounds
organised by the different villages of the
commune.
Sport centres
and wellness: the Hotel la Barme proposes a Jacuzzi, the Finnish sauna as well as a service of massages. Cogne and the surrounding areas offer various activities such as soccer, tennis, boule courts, a gym, hotel swimming pools , mini-golf and table tennis.
